2017-18 Season

I am delighted to take on the role of Romans captain this year and look forward to a great season both on and off the pitch.

The Romans (Development XV) Play in the Zoo Shield League Division 2. With a full fixture list of 26 League games against the likes of Southend, London Irish Wild Geese, Westcombe Park, Colchester, and Canterbury there are some challenging games ahead including local derbies against Hertford and Tring. We are delighted that some of the former players are planning to help with the costs of travel to some of the longer distance away matches. Please also remember that we play every week so just because there is no 1st XV game at home, we would still appreciate your support when we are the Senior side at home. Romans players form part of the clubs senior squad, training alongside the First XV on Tuesdays & Thursdays from 7.15pm.

The Romans have had a great summer build up to the new season in the Zoo Shield Division 2. This is a great breeding ground for the club’s new talent, producing a number of the current First Team stars under the stewardship of Head Coach Alex Austerberry. We welcome new players and Colts wanting to step into Senior rugby. Whether it be new members of the squad proving their skills to make the first team or old war horses returning from injury the Romans provides a great challenge for all players in a highly competitive league. Training has been joined up with the first team squad and under the leadership of Head Coach Gavin Hogg and designated coaches Alex and Tom, providing weekly opportunity to showcase your talent and develop your skills. We’re anticipating a really strong season with the expectation of enhancing the club’s trophy cabinet even further come April.

All Romans games are videoed and members of the coaching staff watch the games regularly so there will always be opportunities to represent the First XV in National One
