Welcome to Old Albanian Rugby

Karen Targett and "Race for Life"

Dear "Fellow OA's and Marchers "

It seems an age since we played last November and had a bit of a stroll to Twickenham. Amongst the blisters, sun, rain, pork products and above all banter in aid of Richard and Leukaemia Chemotherapy Research. Some of you may know that whilst we were Marching my wife was also undergoing the hell of chemotherapy. In Karen's case it is for breast cancer which due to a genetic mutation both she and her sister have now had twice within the last 10 years. Both are lucky and will be fine in the long run due to their vigilance and modern chemotherapy. Which brings me to the reason why I need your help. For the last 5 years Karen and her sister Jayne have run in the "Tesco Race for Life" to raise money for Breast cancer research.

Well before she starts her radiotherapy she is determined to run this years Race for Life at Hereford Race Course which takes place on the 19th July. You can tell what's coming next!!!

She has always managed to raise about £100 in the past from family mostly……but this year she has set her target at £200 (she mentioned "if I cannot raise £200 pounds this year now I have cancer and no hair then when will I ???).

She does not know that I have written this e-mail,  but I would love to surprise/overwhelm her with the power, spirit and love of the group of friends and strangers that I had the pleasure of marching and playing with during November and May.

If you could re-muster a tenth of the power of RugbyMarch 2009 and literally give a pound we will smash her tgt and go along way to lifting her spirits, which like Richard's have never faltered through the hell of chemotherapy.

Thanks for anything that you feel you can contribute and I have attached the link to her Justgiving site below.

Herts Junior Women's Sevens

Woollams, home to OA Saints, hosted the Hertfordshire Junior Woman’s Sevens Tournament on 17th May 2009. Even the rather changeable weather wasn't enough to put off over 500 girls from all over England, as far away as Plymouth, Worcester and Lichfield, playing in the U12, U15 and U18 competitions. The day was organised by the OA Saints and the months of organising certainly paid off as the day was thoroughly enjoyed by all.

The tournament certainly brought out the best from the girls and with some fantastic rugby on display and some definite stars of the future showing off their stuff! The OA Saints u15’s, the home team, were delighted to take home the Egg Cup trophy, other local teams from Welwyn and Hertford also scooped trophies.

England and Saracens Star Flanker, Maggie Alphonsi, was at the event and presented the awards to the awestruck players.

James Fisher WRDM for the South East was present as the RFUW representative and commented on what a great event it had been for junior girls rugby.

Old Albanian Rugby Club Summer Ball 2009

The season is almost over and the summer is just around the corner (fingers crossed!). That can mean only one thing at Old Albanian's...the summer ball is fast approaching.

Last year we had a record 440 people attend a fantastic evening and we're looking to top that again this year.

We will be holding the event on Saturday 11th July, starting as normal at 6pm. We are looking to get tables and payments dealt with as far ahead of time as possible this year, so to avoid disappointment get your table now!

Please see the attached information and booking form for more details.
