OAs Bs came away with a satisfying win against unknown opposition, Datchworth. The final score was a true reflection of the boys' dominance, but not before an initial period of back and forth try scoring, with OAs scoring points and then quickly conceding, twice.
The boys carried well in the loose, making good yardage and important go-forward ball. Occasionally however there was a tendency to run sideways rather than make the pass.
It was pleasing to see the lads successfully demonstrate what we've been practicing in training with controlled presentation at the breakdown and committing numbers quickly to maintain possession and provide a platform for quick ball to the backs.
This was a game that clearly demonstrated the importance of match momentum with the lads taking control of the game shortly before the break with some quick back to back scores that visibly deflated Datchworth. OAs tails were up and we played with confidence.
A few of the boys played in positions they were less familiar with and an absence of subs meant all the boys had to work hard throughout.
In the huddle at the end of the game, the boys correctly identified the areas where there is still room for improvement: straighter running rather than drifting or running across, tackle effectiveness to follow-up the good press, maintaining focus after a score, maintaining the intensity and energy levels throughout the game (fitness). A great result!
