Pictured: Kelsey Clifford in action for England during the Rugby World Cup
Old Albanian Saints are bursting with pride as former Junior Saints captain Kelsey Clifford helped England lift the Rugby World Cup at Twickenham. From her early days at Woollams to the sport’s biggest stage, Clifford’s rise is a story that inspires players right across our club and beyond.
Despite this being her first World Cup, Clifford carved out a crucial role in a dominant Red Roses pack. Renowned for her scrummaging strength, she formed part of an imperious front row that gave England the platform to overpower opponents throughout the tournament. Not satisfied with set-piece dominance alone, Kelsey also made her mark on the scoresheet, crossing for braces of tries against both Australia and Scotland, finishing as England’s joint second-highest try scorer, level with Ellie Kildunne – an extraordinary feat for a prop.
Kelsey’s journey is a reminder of what’s possible through the Saints’ pathway, and her framed England jersey now hangs proudly on our clubhouse wall alongside that of Jane Everett, former Saint and founder of the Junior Saints, who was part of England’s victorious 1994 World Cup squad.
Everyone at OAs is so proud of Kelsey and her Red Roses teammates, and we look forward to celebrating with her soon.
Elsewhere, both Saints senior teams are at home this Sunday: the 1XV host Exeter Athletic in their first home game of the Championship season, kicking off at 2.15pm, while the 2XV continue their Championship 2 Midlands campaign against visitors Sudbury, kicking off at 2pm.
Our Junior Saints are also in action, with the U12s and U14s training at Woollams, and the U16s and U18s away for National Cup fixtures.
