What a fantastic weekend we've had at Old Albanian RFC! Three out of our four senior teams emerged victorious, and it’s safe to say the spirits are high!
My weekend kicked off with a delightful trip up the A40 to catch the Oxford University team take on Saracens Academy in a Friday night lights fixture. It was a treat to see our dynamic men’s first team player, Ben Alexander, getting a run-out for the academy. We couldn’t be prouder of him – watching him do well is really wonderful!
On Saturday, our men’s 1st XV put on a thrilling show at home. It was a whirlwind of hard work, complete with an unusual amount of penalties and yellow cards. But in the end, we bagged the win, which was well-received by all. However, I must address a concerning issue: we received an official complaint regarding some unsavory comments directed at the referee and match officials. Let’s remember to keep it respectful, folks! While it might be tempting to vent frustration, it casts a shadow over our club and could make us less popular in the eyes of the officials and the RFU.
On a brighter note, our Saints 2nd XV had a triumphant outing at Sutton Coldfield, coming away with a solid 33-7 victory, securing their spot at the top of the Women’s Championship Midland 2 league. Well done, ladies!
Our Romans (Men’s 2nd XV) also had a brilliant day at Southend, clinching a significant win with a score of 19-38. They now sit in second place in the Herts 1 league, tied on points with Cheshire. What an achievement!
I’d like to draw your attention to our upcoming lunches. Members, players, and loyal supporters are all invited to our next home game lunch on the 25th. It’s open to everyone and promises to be a fantastic day to support the club and cheer on our players. You can book your tickets here:
If you can’t make it to the lunch on the 25th, why not come down for the men’s 1st XV game against Oundle at 3 PM? And if you’re free on Sunday afternoon, we’d love to see you supporting the Saints 1st XV at home against Trojans at 2PM. Your cheers make a real difference and boost our players on the field!
Here’s to more great weekends ahead!
