1st XV Pre-Season Update

We have been delighted with how the first few weeks of pre-season have gone, with excellent quality and application in what we are challenging the players to take on board.  A fresh look to the coaching team has brought new ideas and the players have responded well in taking new information on board, retaining it and building on each session.  The strength and depth within the playing squad is good and we have been impressed with how quickly the new additions have settled into the squad and we feel there will be a real competition for places within the match day squad.  We have placed an importance in the whole senior squad working together and this should provide a platform for the Romans to have an enjoyable and successful season with movement between 1st team squad and Romans to reward players for performance.

Next week will see us commence our pre-season fixtures programme with us taking an extended squad to a 6 team tournament at Redingensians.  These games will provide an excellent opportunity for us to give all squad players an opportunity to show us what they are about and for us as coaches to try different combinations and to focus on key aspects of our performance which will take us into the rest of our pre-season schedule with further fixtures against Harpenden (14th Aug), Cardiff RFC (18th Aug) and finally Tring at Woolams (23rd Aug).

We are extremely excited to kick start our National League 2 South campaign with two homes games and would welcome a big vocal home support to kick off the new campaign in style against Guernsey on Sat 1st Sept, when we have all 4 Men’s sides playing at home for the first time in many years!
