Saints travelled down to Hammersmith and Fulham on a windy yet dry day on Sunday, with the mindset of putting another strong win in the league. Twenty minutes into the first half Saints looked strong, pinning Hammersmith in their own 22 for much of the game. However, a couple of missed opportunities paired with lacklustre defensive position gave Hammersmith a solid platform to attack from. This resulted in 2 tries in quick succession from the Hammersmith wings. Missed tackles around the fringes appeared to be the order of the day for Saints as, even with high work rate by all to protect the centre of the pitch, the Hammersmith back line ran in a third try before half time. The second half proved more of the same for Saints as, even with dominant set piece the loose continued to be scrappy, limiting the options for attacking play. A breakdown in defensive communication allowed for the final Hammersmith try through the middle of the pitch. Although the Saints continuously made breaks during the game, they were unable to finish. Final score, 26-0.
Forward of the match: Steph Leddington for hard graft and strong set piece.
Back of the match: Katie Robertson for fantastic kicking out of hand and direction of the team under pressure
