Oas u10s turned out in force for the annual Herts RFU County Contact Festival on Sunday 20th March with 6 teams entered alongside 19 other clubs from Hertfordshire.
This is the biggest festival of the season for OA’s and it was great that all our players were able to take part.
The Festival was played under the RFU’s New Rules of Play (NROP) which are designed to be inclusive and player centred rather than results driven. All 6 teams played in pools with other sides of a similar ability and the players and families attending enjoyed lots of very competitive rugby played in a fun environment.
Huge credit goes to Hertford Rfc the hosts and organisers of this season’s County Fest, who made sure the festival ran to time (no mean feat considering the amount of people they were hosting) and setting the right tone for the players and coaches attending. The festival was a great success with all 6 oas u10 sides performing well and showing the expansive open game we are developing based on tenacious tackling, rigorous rucking and a disciplined defence .
The coaches of oas u10s are rightly proud of their young players for playing the game in the right spirit and with plenty of flair.
Photo of the azzuri blues attached -who went undefeated and only conceded 2 tries whilst scoring 18 of their own against other A sides from Harpenden, bishop stortford, datchworth and a very strong barnet side. These results were repeated over lots of our pools and the County fest did give our players a great opportunity to show their talent and get lots of rugby played after a very wet winter with lots of cancelled games and lost training time.
Above all they had loads of fun with their team mates and even got to meet the big fella himself – sarrie the camel! (photo attached).
The u10 ’s now move onto to enjoy their easter break before returning for the last few weeks of the season with their end of season tour to Jersey rfc and further fests in Cambridge, London Irish and St Neots and then the Allianz champions cup where they have 3 u10 sides entered, to close the season.
Come on Oas!!
