Three teams from the U8s had fantastic day last Saturday (28th November) at The London Double Header Festival. The festival was held in the morning at Richmond College, with teams then heading over the road in the afternoon, to the Double Header at Twickenham.
There was even the chance to play on the pitch at half time at Twickenham, for those teams qualifying in the morning’s festival. So unsurprisingly there was much excitement on the coach from Woollams – and a very early start!
2 was the non-so-magic number, well at least for our opposition on Saturday. We were unbeaten at the festival, winning 6-2, 5-2, 5-2 and 5-2 against Chipping Norton, Seven Oaks, Windsor and Alton.
A moment to remember – lining up on the pitch at Twickenham.
There was great play all round, with excellent tries, tremendous tagging, brilliant supportive play, but above all amazing team work and commitment!! Best we’ve seen you play lads, well done. This resulted in qualifying to play on the hallowed turf at Twickenham at half time!!
Eagle-eyed TV viewers could even spot the OAs U8s over Austin Healey’s shoulder at half-time!
Thanks to Sergeant Major Rickett, all the lads (and some extra coaches!) got onto the pitch. Great day had by all, thanks to great coaches, great parents and of course great rugby players – you did OAs proud!
Who needs a haka? The U8s performed a celebratory hokey cokey instead.
Match one: 8-8
Some great play with accurate passing and good use of the pitch. Some good defence but a very swift opposition wing saw some challenging comeback tries. Evenly matched.
Match two: 7-5
Another close match with some flying tries down touch. Unfortunately there were a few missed tag opportunities and the match ended with a mild loss.
Match three: 8-6
Some excellent tries and some great defence from the entire team. Another close match, and we were just pipped to the post.
Match four: 8-6 win
A brilliantly won match with some breakaway tries and fantastic tagging, which meant our defence was resoundingly strong. Great team play, with Theo awarded MOTM – an amazing performance!
All 3 teams, coaches and parents had a great out, one to remember!
Chipping Norton : A draw at 4-4 after a little bit of confusion about the score!
Sevenoaks : 7-3, well played, despite a couple of 7-going-on-18-year olds in the opposition team. Some great passing and team spirit to come back and win the second half with three quick tries.
Marlow : 7-3, some great running rugby and hard fought tries through a strong defensive line from Marlow.
Alton : 8-8, by far the best game from OAs and very nearly a win. A very passionate game from the team who played their socks off in the final match.
