Today Old Albanians U13’s A team played our first League game of the season against Tring. The game was hotly anticipated and the team were excited to get things underway.
The first half was controlled by OA’s with the first try coming from James Deeks, arising from a tap and go penalty after lots of phases of strong rucks which caused the Tring defence to give away a penalty. The second try came from Tom Hughes from a pick and go at the back of a ruck, this was then converted. The next try came from the same sort of action, when James Smith took another pick and go our forwards were dominating the ruck area.
Will Monk scored a magnificent try next, running through multiple players and tumbling over the line to score unfortunately this was not converted . The next couple of minutes were spent in the OA’s half, Tring approached the OA’s try line with lots of rucking, and breaking the game line unfortunately OA’s gave away a penalty which Tring moved the ball along their back line to score a converted Try. The score at Half time was 22-7 in favour of OA’s.
The referee blow to start the second half both teams were evenly match and spent most of the time around half way line OA’s forwards began to increase the competition at the ruck and we began to progress up the field towards the Tring Try line,James Smith ran through 4 Tring players to score under the posts which was then converted. The final OA’s try came as the last play of the game the OA’s forwards had won the ball and Tim Davies kicked a perfectly timed cross field kick to Tom Mac and he scored next to the posts which was sadly not converted.
The game ended in the score of 34-7.
