The Blues carried their good form from Saturday at the Allianz into the ‘A’ Festival at Bishops Stortford. With the majority of team having had a long day the day before they could have been forgiven for low energy levels – we needn’t have feared.
An easy start against Bishops Stortford 2 (8-0) was followed by a much tougher game against Hertford. Hertford took the lead early on, but before long our pressing defence paid dividends forcing turnovers a giving us possession and territory resulting in us overturning the deficit to win 4-1.
The next 2 games saw straight forward victories against Upminster and Harpenden, leaving us at the top of the group and facing tough match against Letchworth in the cup final. The final saw an increase in physicality, with both sides running hard and making big tackles. Our strong running and fluid distribution saw us take a 3-0 lead with some sparkling rugby – committing Letchworth’s defence in the midfield and then spreading the ball wide through 3 or 4 sets of hands to score in the corner. OA’s pushed the lead out to 5-0 before Letchworth scored two late consolation try’s.
The team gelled fabulously – strong aggressive defence and running from Max, Alistair, Will Powell & Rhys, and Lucas, great strike running and finishing from George and Josh, and quick distribution and organisation by Will Pearson and Conor. Everyone played their part with all 9 boys tackling amazingly, and playing a brand of rugby the whole age group should be proud of.
