OA Under 9s cap record season with victory at Tring. OA Chiefs also have great performances against strong opposition
OA’s Under 9s travelled to Tring last Sunday for the last rugby festival of the season and to try to retain the cup they won last season.
With only 3 members of the squad that had won the Ipswich festival the week before OAs showed the strength in depth of the club by emerging victorious in the final against a very strong Hemel Hempstead side.
Success was built on a great defence, winning all their group games without conceding a try. From these solid foundations OAs made the most of their possession with lots of pace, great passing and support play to ensure that they were able to convert it into tries.
v Bicester A 5-0 (HT 2-0)
v Harpenden B 9-0 (HT 4-0)
v Fullerians A 8-0 (HT 3-0)
v Tring A 9-0 (HT 3-0)
v Cheshunt A 5-0 (HT 2-0)
Hemel provided much stiffer competition in the final before OA’s came through to win 4-2 in an excellent game of rugby.
Following their strong performance in the County Finals, OAs were also invited to send the OA Chiefs to compete in this high standard festival. They recorded 2 wins and a draw, against a range of A and B teams
v Welwyn A 3-3
v Tring C 5-1
v Tring B 3-0
v Harpenden A 1-5
v Camelot (Hemel Hempstead A) 0-3
Well done to all the teams who participated in a great advert for the game. A particular word of thanks to all the team at Tring RFC for organising a fantastic festival.
2012/13 has been a fantastic first year of competitive contact rugby for these exceptional 9 year old’s who are a pleasure to work with each week. We can be sure that we will have to be at the top of our game next season as the laws evolve, and our local competition continues to improve.
We can’t wait!!!
