Charity Home

We will display any charitable activities the club or any member of the club is involved in or charities we support.

Karen Targett, wife of Andrew "Targe" Targett and long time supporter of the club is running in the Hereford Race for Life this year. What makes it more incredible is that she is undergoing treamtent for cancer herself whilst doing it.

She is aiming to raise £200 for the charity this year and hopefully with your generous donations we can beat that figure comfortably.

13 current and ex-OARFC rugby stars and legends are participating in the 2009 Richard Thomas Leukaemia Fund Rugby March from Newcastle Rugby Club to Twickenham beginning on Tuesday 5 May and finishing on Saturday 16 May at the Guinness Premiership Final. We are making our way up to Newcastle on Monday 4 May and will be having an early journey hiatus to Franklins Gardens to watch the OARFC Colts win the National Final. We have also secured Steve Borthwick, England Captain, to walk with us on Friday 15 May.

The charity is a fantastic one in memory of a very good OARFC rugby player who left a real mark at the club and all that were fortunate enough to have played with Richard. The charity is doing fantastic work and is very close to a breakthrough in its research work.

Please take time to read through the brochure.

Ex-Saracens & current Old Albanians Back Row Paul Gustard is running in the Flora London Marathon to raise money for The Wooden Spoon.

Last year Jack Ricketts ran the London Marathon and after that he signed up for several runs, including a couple more marathons, two 30 mile runs, a 50 mile one and finally a 126km run down the Skeleton Coast in Namibia in April 2009.

This year this route has increased in distance slightly to 126km – which is three full marathons!

The cost of the trip and equipment is all self funded so if anyone wants to sponsor Jack, then all money raised will go direct to the Rainbow Trust (Charity Registration No 1070532). The Rainbow Trust Children’s Charity supports families who have a child with a life threatening or terminal illness. Carers provide practical and emotional support to all family members within the family home and at its two respite homes. It aims to support more families with a terminally ill child. You can fi nd out more at www.rainbowtrust.org.uk .

We wish Jack good luck with his run! Watch this space to find out how it went.
