Having had a ‘walkover’ in the 1st round when Bury St Edmunds could not raise a side, OA Colts got their National Colts Cup campaign off to a flying start with an emphatic 48-5 win over Cambridge.
Cambridge came with a deserved reputation as one of the stronger Colts sides in the South East Division, but OAs started in brilliant fashion when James McCallum ran 75 metres from the kick off to score a sensational try. From that moment on, a shell-shocked Cambridge side were never really in it. A further six tries were scored through Jan NInalga, Luke Atkinson-Coyle, Calvin Hibbard (x2), Tatenda Fernando and Joe Dootson; with Luke Simpson adding five conversions and a penalty.
Apart from the third quarter when OAs were guilty of trying too hard to find the ‘miracle play’, the team played some wonderful attacking rugby with ball in hand. OAs now eagerly look forward to the draw for the 3rd round which is due to be played on Sunday 13th November.
