It is with great sadness that I have to advise everyone associated with Old Albanian RFC of the passing of Nigel Cartwright following a short illness.
Not only was Nigel a former captain of the First XV and an Honorary Life President of the club, he can be aptly described as one of the builders of the club, an OA through and through, having devoted the best part of seventy years service man and boy. Nigel was a stalwart OA volunteer, and when his playing days ended he took control of the club’s sponsorship activities, and he continued to serve the commercial team until quite recently from his “Woollams office” (namely the cricket changing room) where he would base himself every Wednesday morning. He will be known and missed by most if not all of the club’s sponsors.
Nigel also represented Herts County at rugby, plus he was a devoted member of OA Cricket Club, where he was both a player and a sponsor.
There will be a service of Thanksgiving for Nigel’s life at St Nicholas Church, on Church Green, Harpenden, on Friday 17th February, commencing at 11.45am.
On behalf of Nigel’s OA Rugby “family” we extend our deepest condolences to his family at home. The word legend is often overused in sport, but in the case of Nigel Cartwright, I can think of no other Old Albanian more deserving of the description. He will be sadly missed.
